HOTEL MASTAY jingumichi

This was a very conveniently situated hotel with a lovely huge room and beds. Also a great bathroom with large separate shower room and modern toilet. There was ample room lighting options and the heating was very efficient - add in an in-room humidifier and you have real comfort. I always stay in the Higashiyama area on my regular visits to see friends who live on Sanjo-dori. This hotel surpasses all the rest that I have stayed in. An in-room washer/dryer and full kitchenette (and next door to a Lawson's store) makes for a very easy stay. Staff were super helpful!

Loved the Higashiyama district and location, including proximity to a row of famous temples such as Chion-in, Maruyama Park, Gion/the famous 'slopes', Heian Shrine and Kyocera art museum (the Murakami exhibition was wonderful!) - as well as Higashiyama station and various bus routes from a transport perspective. Secured an excellent price (a combination of booking fairly early and an offer, so partly luck). Large apart-hotel style room with nice kitchenware and a much appreciated washing machine, complete with washing liquid. A self-sufficient home base for us while in Kyoto. Hotel staff were friendly (if seemingly universally young - or perhaps that says more about us), and were quick to respond to messages and queries online ahead of our arrival and during our stay. Free machine espresso during the day is a nice touch. Also close to a good Lawson store, which is just across the street.

The hotel room is bright with both natural and excellent indoor lighting, roomy, and most efficient and functional setup in every possible way. The location is excellent, with easy access to all kinds of public transportation, and within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and even some of our favorite temples. ,with restaurants and other places within easy reach, yet not overly crowded and noisy with tourists, the staff was extremely polite, and went out of their way to make us stay pleasant. They helped to solve language problems for us with restaurants booking the house cleaning was great, with attention to details. Overall, we are very satisfied with our stay, and would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

Location in Norther Higashiyama is superb combining historic and modern. Walking distance to many temples, and historic Gion, two excellent museum of art, and connection to the subway network of Kyoto from nearby station, also by 3-4 lines of city buses. Access from JRail station by subway (2 lines, 6 stops, 20 minutes). The apartment is very roomy with all amenities (laundry is in Japanese only and good web translator is needed to figure out how to run it). Pleasant cafes and restaurants in the area. Apparently bikes are available for rent, which enables further explorations.

Probably our favourite stay during our whole trip in Japan. Very clear, modern and comfortable. The bath is very unique, it has a heater to keep it at a stable temperature making it very difficult to get out! Staff were very helpful, they booked a table for us at a restaurant we wanted to visit but couldn't book due to the language barrier. It's also located walking distance from the lovely cultural parts of Kyoto, and a very quick bus/the ride into the centre.
